Hey there, I'm hutch/h!tch, I was a mapper on sof2 a long time ago. Today I'm a 3D artist, I'm modeling on my spare time some stuff thinking about sof2, I'd dream to make a reboot of it, but I have barely any knowledge on programing. I can animate, model, map, well everything that is artistic, I work on UDK4 and have the basic knowledge of what a programer could do with it, I can however create rich UIs, and stuff but beside watching my work in the engine, I'm pretty much stuck.
Any idea where I could find people willing to help me bring my vision to life ?
I could share some work or concept sheets here if required.

hi Hitch, welcome here, there are lot of programmer at this website and almost every file you need to create maps or anything else, i dont think i got exactly what you are looking for but i'm sure if you open a specific topic when you go stuck in your project, here you can find someone able to help you. Mind is an old game so be patient for the replies, ppl pop here not so frequently now but they still visit the board since is the best reference for this game now.

with python you could try to run into the B3 for the sof2 v1.00 if you got the time.

Hi mate,
sorry for the late reply, had a busy period like most people during xmas and new year.
I do know a couple of stuff about programming, not that much tho, so the things i could do are limited depending on the vision you have.
I'm not available to get into anything untill the 24th of January, but i'm able to try and help you out after that.

I do check the website dayly, so you should be getting a respond from me within 24 hours.
I would like you to do the following for me:

What is your vision, what do you want to do. ( Make it completely understandable for me, even if it's 20 pages long, so i can understand it correctly ).

Show me some of your stuff ( Interested into animating, moddeling, graphical designing and programming myself ).

Templates/Demo's or samples of what you would like to have.


Your Vision
What would you like to make, create and do. Make this completely understandable for me, so i can imagine what you would like to have and how i picture it compared to you. Doesn't matter if you make it a 20 pages description.

Your Work
I'm interesting in your previous work, or what you already have. I'm interesting into animating, moddeling, graphical design and programming myself, so i would love to see some nice work from your end.

Templates/Demo's or Samples
only if you have it already, but i'm a man of having Samples ready which i base my work on.
What i mean is that when i design a menu for example, i first make it on Photoshop, to see how it would look like and what my concept will be, and then i'll try to make it happen ingame or in a program.

I had the idea of more modern menu and hud from ingame. unfortunately to details so it couldn't be made as the stripes were to close to eachother which made it ugly.

How to Communicate?
If i'm interesting into helping you (If you i like your vision ), and if i have time. How could i communicate with you, and when are you availabe?
I'm from Holland (gmt+1) and i'm available between 17:00 - 21:00 during the week and from 13:00 - 20:00 in weekends. (If no exception is made ), i don't know where you are from and how much time you are able to spend on it.
With communication i mean "Skype, Hotmail, etc... " (I'm not a man from Social Media, so facebook, twitter, linkedIn or any kind of things like that are not able for me ).

I would love to try new things out, so im curious what you have to offer. Wink

Hello there, thank you for the replies. I didn't get any notification mail until today, I was happy to see it!

I believe, like all of you, I'm a huge sof2 fan, I can't stop playing it, I can't forget about it even though I tryed in the soft battlefield and Cod's arms. I remember back in the days, when sof3 was about to come out, I was excited, I even sent mails to the developement team to suggest them some ideas that would be cool, they replyed to me kindly, but we all know what sof3 we got. I suggested them many things that are mainstream today in FPSs (modifiable weapons, progression, ...) but I suggested them many other things that we still can't see today in FPSs... And I still dream to see them come to life today.

Sof2 is not your regular BF, nor COD , nor anything. For me, it always was about "who's gonna land the nicest shot, who will be the most impressive with the nicest moves, who's gonna be the more stylish, and all this with true "warrior" values. (no hiding, no cheapshots, no camping...)
Based on this idea, well, I join an image (concept sheet). This concept sheet was on my computer for more than a year now, didn't touch it much lately and it makes me kind of sad.

For the progressions, I wanted everyone to be able to "email" anyone inside the game, the focus would be on "wars", and "virtual money". You could be a great player and have teams ask you to join them in a war for some virtual money, you could manage your own team, and "pay" mercenaries to win fights for you, you could bet on wars, ... Everyday the "mercenary" list will update with "who's the hotest". There would be polpularity points, people spectating wars, even past wars and judge who's the hotest, and so on. Verry stylish imho.

There is so many things to say and I forgot, but basicaly you have the idea of what I want it to be.

I have more than 16gb of content I made (PBR textures, models), still working on some weapons (not yet done, kind of shy showing them right now), characters...
If any question, I will answer them. By the way, I wanted the reboot to be called soldier of fortune prime time, or if we're forced to not use soldier of fortune, then call it The Mercenary Syndicate.

Oh, and I forgot, I wanted that everytime you'd like to play sof2 classic, you'd be able to join an old server through the new game (removing all the adds, but keeping the next gen graphics), how cool is that !

As far as i can understand what u wrote above you are meaning that you want to rebuild sof2 with Unreal Engine 4, and also being able to play sof2 servers with those graphics?

If you mean the above:
i like your requests and it is possible, i know there was a person or a team that was trying to rebuild sof2 for jk2 and managed to get the netcodes correctly and function to be able to join sof2 servers with the jk2 engine.  - PROJECT HERE

but it's behind my capabilities, as i'm not a Game developer and i'm studying diffirent languages in my spare time, so i have limits to the things i can do and the time i have ( Which is probably the same for you ).
It would however be awesome to play sof2 in a Next Gen Graphical game.
And i might be able to recreate a large part of the game,  Recreating the characters, weapons, maps and stuff to make them beautifull as f*ck. (Sorry for the language). but my computer ain't powerful enough to play "high graphical games" stand alone making a game which that.
Buying a new laptop around summer this year, and im looking for one with a good processor and graphics card and the other stuff.

If you are going to recreate a totally new game, than it's possible to do nearly all things in the sheet.

My teacher asked me a couple of months ago if it was possible to make a game using UDK4 on the pc's from our school.
So as i already had UDK installed on my pc, i kinda tried to rebuild my room a little bit to test if my pc could handle it.
Building the room wasn't really the problem, but rendering and playing it was a huge "no".
I made a video back then, and as you can see i had low fps and was playing on almost the lowest settings. (fps far below 30 ).

Default sof2:
If you mean getting sof2 better graphics, and an xp system that it's not possible for me to do.
and would require a serverside mod in order to use the xp system and would be working only for the servers using the xp system.
e.g. Rocmod, xs, osp, 1fx won't be able to use the xp system unless added into the mod.


Request
Is it possible to make your vision again? The things you would like to have like in the images above, but making it more detailed.
Also not sure if you already tried to rebuild one of the sof2 maps, but possible to try to rebuild one of the sof2 maps in next gen graphics? Dunno if it would be to much time, else just try to part of a map.

I will try to look into this further, after my exams.

I could reproduce a sof2 map (in fact I'm remodeling parts of  jor1: crates, market props,...), but the truth is that since I have no idea how someone could translate the values from the "rebooted" map to the old one, I'm kind of waiting to be sure I'll keep the exact same values from the reboot to the classic sof2.
I'd like to have the EXACT same movement engine from an engine to another (a real port of the movement from the q3 engine, to the UT), to keep the feeling as honest as possible while playing on the rebooted version. I could finish the concept sheet, but it'll take some time, I'll update it in here as soon as possible. And yes, the reboot has to be on udk4 since it is a true current/next-gen engine, but I'm sure we can find a way to make it work on old machines, since udk4 can even run on mobile phones (maybe an option to reduce shader quality, screensize, effects,... ?). Udk4 runs well on my computer, but I have a Nasa's super-computer (lol).

Well, I could bundle all the models I have in a Udk project, with a menu, but that'll be just that, a menu and some models inside udk4, I imagine what you want is a starting point. I could put up a googledrive and share it with you, if we can get in touch "live" somehow, that would help for managing the progresses. I'm glad you're showing interest and I thank you. I created a slack channel, if you can provide me your e-mail (to invite you to the channel), so we can stay in touch, that would be great !

Well, i had the idea to make a newer version of sof2 with a couple of friends, but i was the only one capable of atleast some coding, and they had no clue what i was talking about. Now my coding is improved a lot and well u back with an nice idea, and i'm interested.

Yeah, when i had udk4, i remember  having a standard template for 2d games, 3rd person games, 1st person games etc...
Giving you only a camera, default platform and a gun ( like in the video above ).

I might be able to put up a github project, but i don't know how to use it properly.
Keep strugling to upload the files to github with their program, but it's a very good way to share files, and keep the project updated on that.

that's awesome, I sent you an invitation to the slack channel, so that if we ever gather more people to help we'd be set. I find it amusing to find finaly someone who wanted to do the same thing, I was about to leave that dream behind, I was throwing my lasts bottles in the sea, we never know.
