Hey guys, not sure if anyone here remembers me but I'm some oldschool guy who played 1.00 and Gold.
Maybe you've played one of my maps office/northport/fueldump/glasswar or used some mods I've created through years..

but enough shitshat..


I'm here because some months ago I've bumped onto something interesting which could change the future of sof2..

Some guy called RCF is working on improving the graphics of SOF2 by using a heavy modified JK2 engine which they are still working on.
His current progress can be viewed here: http://omgwtflol.rivercrew.net

What this engine does is adding normal maps, parallax mapping, dynamic glow, add HDR, tonemapping and tons more by using the power of rend2 a new renderer. (Same thing used in ioquake3)
This is very interesting for us mappers out there who still like to create some new maps but it will also slightly improve the standard maps.

With this message I wish to make it more popular so it would attract the attention of some coders out here or testers who would like to test for bugs so RCF can proceed perfecting this mod.

hello m8! welcome here,

i'm happy to see still in 2014 someone is developing something new for sof2!

unfortunatly cause some international law, for lot of countries is not allowed to download anything from filefront so if you still have your files available on your hard drive i suggest u to upload them here i dont have any limitation. is easy just submit all the files adding them into the downloads module!

Just submitted bout 4 of my maps and some "prefab(ricated)" maps of CSS which are just the basic things like walls and floors.

Also here's a picture of the use of this new renderer/engine:

good job, added all your submitted URL's. I suggest next time to send the file directly, file-sharing websites like rapidshare, mediafire.. etc.. after some years will delete the links, already happened trust me because i lost to much things...  something that will never happen here.

unless you quit sof2 and erase the database and ftp etc... which hopefully will not happen soon.

wb Kenith, i knew you from gold back at 2008 or 2009 or something,
some servers are still using your maps, as i know Glasswar is used by the CKY servers sometimes, and i used to play fuel dumb a lot when we were with alot of people, and ofcourse the snow mod, and the wire textures or something ( if it was you or somebody else ),
i didnt really got into the mapping section because it just simply took me to much time to make a decent map, i only know i ones made a mix of Barn & shop2 and made it fit into eachother and we used it exclusively for EDT Server, but i didnt went really further with it.

The new engine replaces the old ones, right?
So if you download it and your replacing the files and going to the server list you'll only see the rivercrew.net server or you will see all the other server also?

If you have some knownledge of C/C+/C++ coding you can create wallhack easily? only no shader wallhack.
and you might say this is like a new sof2 patch or something.

Anyways im looking forward for using it if it will show/run on the original sof2 servers.
which i see if im reading it correctly, that it can.
and will it still work with anticheat software such as punkbuster, fairplay & 1fx. Anticheat, + Which version is it compatible with ( V1.00 or gold )?

Guess I went away too early cause I barely seen people playing my maps :p which is a shame as we put a lot of time in it even when its just a remake...

About the renderer, it does not replace the original one, youll be able to use the default and new one while the new one just gives extra features. So you can still play all default maps with the new renderer.

Im not sure if you can only play on his server for the moment but it definitly will in the future ^^

Seriously, i cannot wait to make a similar map to operation metro (outside) and seine crossing for sof2, something like prague but summer and being able to go inside most buildings.

Would it be easier than to make maps? or will it be the same as GTK Radiant has now?
People are to lazy nowadays to download maps so most server will stick at the basic maps and maybe a few other maps like dep or dust but in most servers it isnt more than that.

Well making maps will stay the same but making shaders might be a bit more complicated because those will "enable" the features like normal maps, ...

But we can make mapping easier. If you look at the maps nowdays from other games, youll notice buildings and stuff repeating. Thats an idea I had for sof2. Making prefabs and then reusing them in different ways with for example the use of terrains and still make the maps look unique.

But then I also hope we'll be able to make bigger maps with no fps drops and that the models act better like for example cryengine, css, skyrim... That they autoclip themselves with no fps drops and cast better shadows...

For that last thing i should have no fear as it will have dynamic lightning (moving shadows)

I know some ways yes but its not the complete thing.

For example:

CSS/CSGO/HL2 maps: easy peasy, you can get the structures as they are in those games, you only have to texture it, add entities and thats it.

BF3/4: You can extract the models and remake the models as brushes in GTK radiant, or you can use its models as misc_model and clip it (huge FPS drops so I suggest remaking the models ; like buildings ; to something simpler in brushes.. I was planning to do this for something like seine crossing for SOF2)

Same goes for other games where you can extract the models.

but sof2 graphics will look the same or will it get the graphic quality of Jedi Acedemy?
Can we already try it out? ( if yes, just add the 2 files into sof2 folder or we need Jedi Acedemy also? ).

The graphics will improve.

OpenSOF2MP currently makes use of the vanilla JediKnight engine (standard engine).
Once this is done, RCF can start implementing the new renderer called Rend2 (from ioquake3)

But REND2 is still in progress. They are working daily on it so don't worry bout the progress.

So my main goal was to get as much players as possible to test out the current OpenSOF2MP for bugs which RCF can fix so then he can get Rend2 in it sooner.

(Rend2 = the graphics improver)

Well there are some COD maps made for CSS/HL2/L4D/CSGO etc.. these are "very" easy to port, they just have to be retextured and entities added.
